Each year, the Charlotte North Rotary Club honors a police officer, a firefighter and a teacher for outstanding contributions to public safety and/or health and welfare to the North Charlotte
community, an area bound by Graham St, Central Av and Eastway Dr. The award includes a plaque, a gift of $150, and recognition in the presence of colleagues and loved ones at a Rotary luncheon.
This year’s recipient’s are:

Standing from left to right: Detectives Evonne “Ed” Galloway & Tammy Hunter, Firefighter Anthony Carrothers, and Teacher Diane Fritch
At the luncheon the recipients received their Awards which include a summary of why they were being honored:
Officers: Detectives Tammy Hunter and Evonne
"ED" Galloway are burglary investigators assigned to the Eastway Division. Detectives Hunter and Galloway are partners and excellent detectives who have contributed greatly to the reduction of burglary and apprehension/incarceration
of burglars and thieves in the Eastway Division. Both detectives lead the entire burglary unit in cases cleared during the 2003 (70+ each) and 2004 (100+ each). It should be noted that these detectives cleared most of their cases by
arrest.
Detectives Hunter and Galloway have built an incredible working relationship with the officers of the Eastway Division. Every officer on every shift knows that they can call either detective at
any time of the day or night, days off or holidays and either, or both, detectives will drop their personal lives to return to work or offer advice and support. Because of this strong relationship, Eastway Division officers are more
attuned to the burglary problem and work harder to prevent, or reduce, the burglary problem. Both detectives will assist officers with any crime, not just burglary. These detectives have a unique manner of gaining the trust of
suspects, allowing them to get information that many detectives are not able to obtain.
Detectives Hunter and Galloway are the first to volunteer to assist with a benevolent issue involving department employees, department volunteers or members of the community. Both assist with
Division benevolent projects and community projects to help improve the Eastway Division. Detective Galloway took the lead in ensuring that the Eastway Division officers who were on military deployment received care packages and
letters from Division officers. She kept in touch with the officers’ families to ensure their needs were met. Detectives Galloway and Hunter organize all of the homecoming celebrations for officers on military leave. Both
detectives volunteer for, and are involved in the Christmas Poinsettia delivery and the Explorer Christmas project.
Detectives Hunter and Galloway are quiet leaders. They are well respected and truly go above and beyond the call of duty. They are affectionately referred to by many in the division as Cagney and
Lacey.
Firefighter: The Charlotte Fire Dept is
proud to submit firefighter Anthony Carrothers from fire station # 22 for this important Charlotte North Rotary Award. "Coach" Anthony Carrothers found himself wearing a different uniform this past fall. Beyond serving above
and beyond his duties as a Charlotte firefighter he served an important role as coach and mentor to dozen of young athletes during this past football season. Anthony along with a co-worker coached the Cardinals youth football team to
an undefeated season and lead the young men and their families to the Pop Warner Super Bowl Championship in Orlando, Florida this past December. Many of these young players and their families faced a variety of socio-economic
challenges, resulting in limited financial support. To most of these children, participating in the Pop Warner Super Bowl, was major life experience. Firefighter Anthony Carrothers along with coaching these fine young men ensured that
no athlete was left behind and a rewarding sports experience was enjoyed by all.
Teacher: Shamrock Elementary school
nominated their Teacher of the year for this award. Diane Fritch is an outstanding 3rd Grade Teacher. She is respected by her students and she was recognized by her colleagues for the Teacher of the year honors. She has
been a teacher at Shamrock for 5 years and began her teaching career 7 years ago. She is grade level chairperson at Shamrock. Diane is known as one of the most caring teachers at Shamrock. She has gone above and beyond the “call” in
communicating important issues with students, parents and other faculty. She has been active with assisting the Charlotte North Rotary club in implementing their tutoring program at Shamrock.
